African Xylophone (Balafone)

Outcomes

  • develops listening and focus
  • challenges limiting beliefs
  • creates a bonded team
  • encourages risk-taking

How it works + What we do

The balafon is a huge wooden African xylophone, whose notes are amplified by gourds of various sizes that act as sound boxes. A roomful of these magnificent instruments is an irresistible sight. Delegates are soon seated in front of their chosen instrument, and practising authenitc, easy-to-learn tunes.

The facilitator sets people at ease, giving them confidence in their ability to learn and enjoy playing music. Groups soon develop rhythmic and technical skills, learning improvisational and creative techniques – and emerging proud of their level of achievement in such a short time.

Create event

In the space of an hour, to be presented with something new and then find 50 people can all do the same thing is amazing - it makes you realise it's not so difficult to work together after all. Close quotation mark
